Okay, so here's a fun idea. What would happen if I made a deck entirely disregarding trends about making it faster, action cheating, aggro and so on? Let's go even further. What would happen if I leave out upgrades and weapons almost completely? And cherry on top: what would happen if I turn up to a 48 player championship with it?
Let's say that people were confused and it gave me upper hand in some situations. ;) We have played 6 rounds of swiss in 12-people groups and I came out on second place. My pairings were:
Unkar/Fn/Trooper - won
Bala/Fn/Trooper - lost
Bala/Fn/ Trooper - won
Vader/Raider - won
Vader/Guard - won
Poe/Maz - lost, but almost got 'im ;)
In the second part we played in tournament system and I unfortunately lost to Hired Gun/Hired Gun/Mon Mothma, but nevertheless it was fun.
So... how does it work? First of all forget about claiming the battlefield. Just leave it, you have things to do in your round. Ewok Village - Endor is a great battlefield for this deck because it gives absolutely nothing to the opponent. Why? Because Imperial War Machine throws cannon fodder at the enemy until he is dead and does not concern itself with shields. [Endless Ranks(/card/01070) will do the trick.
But we need money for that. So... if my characters are being mercilesly slaughtered I could make some buck out of it. Aftermath is cool. So are Drudge Work and Underworld Connections. Supply Line is also cool because A) it can't be killed like Datapad B) can give me reroll or focus and C) it can also be a good die to sacrifice with He Doesn't Like You.
So how do i kill the enemy? Tie Pilot covers my dice from being removed, Vehicles + Astromech deal a fair amount of damage quite consistently. And we should not forget that all characters can pack a punch in some circumstances. And there's four of them, so they always Flank.
Why Lockdown? Because it is good when the enemy has Defensive Position or Dug in and can't use them.
Probe - fewer cards in enemy's hand make my face light up with smile.
Is a variant of Endless Swag. Won several SC's, won Charlotte NC SC last Saturday. Not saying it's a bad idea, but don't present it like it's entirely original.
