I've had some success since the errata with this deck. Currently sitting 6-0. I usually opt to get the opponent battlefield for the shields. If I am playing against a mono color deck I will place both sheilds on Kylo Ren - Tormented One in order to keep alive to hit the opponent each round. Other than that I give a sheild to each character.
In terms of upgrades, I upgrade the character that is not getting attacked.
If Kylo Ren - Tormented One is getting attacked using Cad Bane - Vicious Mercenary action to upgrade and activate is great. Even best since all the guns in this deck have ambush so you can immediately resolve damage.
If Cad Bane - Vicious Mercenary is being targeted, I will upgrade Kylo Ren - Tormented One with Vibroknife. Other upgrades will continue to go on Cad Bane - Vicious Mercenary making sure they have redeploy. This will allow you to maximize Cad Bane - Vicious Mercenary damage before he dies. Once Cad Bane - Vicious Mercenary dies, the redeployed weapons can be replaced with Vibroknife Ancient Lightsaber Crossguard Lightsaber. This is important as it will save your resources for controlling the opponent dice.
There is a lot of control in the deck so sometimes forgoing an upgrade is needed round 1.
