We were proud to host the Chicago Regionals this past weekend. Over the course of this week, we will be posting the Top 8 decklists. Please note, we are the TOs, not the designers, so we cannot provide additional insight into card choices.

Was at the event and was looking forward to seeing this list and I never got to play against it sadly. Thanks!

You local?

Atomisk 18

@Alabamaman Yup, my playgroup is based in Berwyn!

MekANerD 37

Why force speed? For the focus and shield?

drbearsec 1

`@MekANerD This is the TO account and not the player’s account. But having lost too it, it allows the ability to run certain combo plays and skip mitigation if RI isn’t out or resolve and Jump. Lots of nasty things when you get 2-4 extra actions

Loyal T 1

Force speed because you can use an ambush card and activate Obi to lock the opponent from mitigating your dice and hopefully a special hits on your force speed. Then roll in Maz, resolve 2 dice (focus one of the big melee dice and resolve the special on the Force speed) then use concentrate to fix all other dice and smash the opponent. Lastly, jump out.

I'll never understand why decklists are released especially after they are asked to be kept secret. I'm not the deck designer but this is one of many reasons I don't play competitively. The element of surprise is a reason this deck was so successful and its ruined by showing your opponent your list before playing and when its released publicly

Scactha 888

There´s nothing surprising with this deck. No secret tech nor anything which is a very rare occurance in CCGs anyway as the collected innovative power far surpass the individual brewer. It´s only well designed and played.

zmanfarlee 19

'richardwiggles' Lol if you don't play competitively then why care. You take a regional down your deck is getting spoiled. That's how CCG's work

zmanfarlee 19

Oh wait.... that's weird the TO publishes the list. I get it if it's leaked by players but the TO is weird.

RichardWiggles 1

@zmanfarlee

CushionRide 101

no its not really weird, some org events televise and interview the players and the deck. this forum is no different

zmanfarlee 19

@RichardWiggles

@CushionRideIts being said the player said please don't share my deck. If thats the case then people shouldn't show up to this guys regional if he can't take a simmple request like that

RichardWiggles 1

@zmanfarlee I don't play competitively mainly because I got sick of playing the same meta decks that people looked online for thw decklist and write-ups. I've been playing CCGs since the old Decipher Star Wars CCG and this was never the case... So no. That's "not how CCGs work". If a player releases the list then cool but I know decks like this involves countless hours of deck testing to make it just right. That is ruined after a couple hours of success and now that work is released to the masses when the designer asked it not to be.

zmanfarlee 19

@RichardWiggles Ive been playing CCG's since before you it seems. Times change. This is how CCG's work. Same back then pretty much though for Magic. Star Wars wasn't big enough to have scouting.

If the deck was scouted by players then I think its fine. If he asked a TO to not disclose and then TO did then TO is a jerk. As I stated above...

I love how people think playing the old cruddy star wars game means somehting. Don't do that, looks bad.

RichardWiggles 1

@zmanfarlee the old Star Wars game was great until they added to much and caused it to collapse... But I agree it was never as large as the all holy MTG! I suppose with your breadth of experience in Magic I'll concede my opinion and be sure to never look bad again in the eyes of an online community. Thank you

zmanfarlee 19

@RichardWiggles bahhhhh u win. Sorry

zmanfarlee 19

I haven't had my coffee sorry for being offensive @RichardWiggles wish I could delete

RichardWiggles 1

@zmanfarlee haha, you're good my man. I have incredibly thick skin and just brushed it off.

Had we expected the sharing of decklists to be a divisive issue, we would have posted it in our event description, or at least made it clear in our opening announcements. However, it's not something that has ever been questioned at any of our CCG events before, so we didn't expect it needed to be addressed. It is an industry standard practice for competitive CCG events, and we intended to keep that practice with Destiny. However, we didn't think about the fact that Destiny is a lot of players' first CCG, and they are unlikely to be familiar with how things tend to be ran.

In the future, we will communicate more clearly that we plan to post lists. That will allow people to know what to expect from the outset.

On a different note, I disagree with the comment that "There´s nothing surprising with this deck." If you compare this to other Obi/Maz decks, it is very different from the usual builds. While we have seen these sort of cards before, we typically see them in Sabine decks, not Obi-Wan. That's a very significant change that probably contributed greatly to its success, and you'd be hard pressed to find a similar build featuring these characters.

@PastimesEvents I respect your responses

@PastimesEvents completely agree with you and I know I couldn’t go to a regional tournament with this deck like this person and win with it. (Right now the best players are winning and that is a fact) Obi-Wan is my favorite character and am greatful that you posted this in the community so we can all learn from it. I’m also very happy to see Obi-Wan get a regional win
