This is the first event I have ever won. I placed top 4 at smaller store championship earlier this year and that was a long day, but this was a whole new level. At the end of the night my brain was scrambled, but this is what I can remember from the day. I made this deck to counter mill the best I could without losing its aggression and friends in high places draws. I fortunately only saw mill in the round of 8 and it played really well against other Vader decks. I was asked why Bazine and the answer was she has one more HP, one less blank side, a die that is more for control, and most importantly I don’t have a Greedo...

Round 1, Win: Han3/Qi’Ra. This was pretty back and forth at first. He generated a ton of money but so did I and got a Vaders fist out turn 2. Went for Qi’Ra first and Han had 3 upgrades by the end but not enough removal for Vader and the fist.

Round 2, Win: Vader/Jawa. In this game all I remember was getting my board state in a good place because I rolled a ton of $ and shields so I let him be aggressive and took a little bit of damage then came back hard in round 2-3. I hit a fear and dead men to finish off Jawa and put his Vader in a bad spot. I also didn’t remove one of his Vader dice.

Round 3, Win: Aayla/Kit. (This deck was in top 4) this game was incredibly close! Kit is so versatile and my opponent did a great job of playing him offensively and defensively. I remember getting Vaders Fist out again turn 2 after saving $ and killing Aayla that round. He then hit my Vader with a my ally is the force and killed him. After that I had Bazine and a fist to finish it out. I think Bazine had 3-4 hp left at the end. I didn’t play price of failure specifically for this situation in which Vader goes down but Fist is out... still have a chance.

Round 4, Win: Vader/Greedo. (This deck was also top 4) This game took about 8 minutes to play. All I can remember is he got Vader saber down and hit me first for about 10 damage turn 2 and then rolled Vader back in for 2 more damage. I played a little bit slower and got an ancient, Vader saber, and force speed in Vader and by turn 3 hit his Vader back for 14. It was so crazy! We both God rolled damage on our dice but I just had one more in the pool.

Round 5, Loss: Yoda/Qui Gon2. This game was nuts. Since he had only one copy of each card I didn’t know what he was going to do. He played it so well. He got Yodas hut down and qui gons saber and just shielded up, slow played, controlled my dice and then hit back big with Qui Gons ability. He killed Vader with an Ataru strike for 8 damage I think. I was kind of in no mans land the whole game and killed Yoda and had Qui Gon to about half health before he finished off Bazine. Got the Fist out at the end but wasn’t enough.

Round 6, Win: Han3/Qi’Ra. This matchup was incredibly close too. I actually thought he had lethal on Vader and told him I had no removal... I started showing him my hand and he politely reminded me I had 2 shields left. He was a great sport and even with that almost won. I got Fist out with Bazine left again and he didn’t draw any hyperspace jumps when he needed them. In both Han/Qi’ra matches I went for Qi’ra first.

Round 7, Win: Becket/cienna/firespray. This opponent was undefeated at this point. He got his battlefield and got the firespray out turn one with a mod but he rolled horribly. He discarded to re-roll at least 5 times in two rounds and hit a total of about 4-5 damage. I killed Cienna turn 2 and he conceded because he had to leave before the top cut. I felt really bad about it but was happy to be 6-1!

Round of 8: Jyn/Cassian. This matchup was so fun. I killed a shielded up Cassian turn one with a Bazine special and double 4 on Vader. He then played masterfully to mill me out and hit big defensive positions and dug in at the right time. He also jumped once with 10 damage showing I believe. It was impressive. In the next few games I slow played a little more and got down Vaders chamber and used at odds every chance I could on a 1 discard side showing. With that combo I survived the mill game 2 and in game 3 I got an early fist out as well as a Vader saber and it was too much too fast although I think I got down to only 1-2 cars left in my deck.

Round of 4: Vader/Greedo match from swiss. I’m pretty sure this match lasted about 15 minutes for two games in total. All out blow for blow each round. He got a Fist down in each game but I was ahead in damage each game and won back to back.

Finals: Vader/Greedo. I had not played this opponent yet and his deck ran things like abandon all hope so it really came down to who managed their money the best. He got a Vader saber out game one and hit hard. He also price of failured for 7 damage after I had claimed and took me out fast. The next two games were a combination of great rolls and great draws. I had force speed and Vader saber with theed or truce each game and then did a rise again for darksaber the last game. It almost came down to milling him out in the last game because he force illusioned big damage twice and friends and high places twice. I can’t remember if he got a Fist out both games but he had one out in one of them.

It was such a long and fun day and a great end to two years of being in this game. I am pumped for rotation and the new sets to come. I hope destiny survives!
