Kylo Ren / Arihnda Pryce - 2nd Place Store Championship Deck

23rd September, 2018 - Good Games Top Ryde

Standard deck consisting of Kylo Ren and Arihnda Pryce with a few outlier cards that really helped take this deck above the competition.

Undefeated during Swiss (4-0)

Game 1 - eJabba/eArihnda Pryce (Win)

Didn't know this deck, but saw Command Center - Lothal and expected Mill. Fast Hands shenanigans with Jabba's sides, followed by consistency with Pryce's . Although my battefield was chosen (Emperor's Throne Room), it worked well in his favour.

But lots of Yellow cards in his deck meant Kylo's ability was consistent and 21 total health wasn't enough with my own Pryce s hitting for 3 or 4 .

Game 2 - eYoda/Cassian/Anakin (Win)

This is the deck I wanted to tech against, and why I included Closing the Net in my list. Most 3-Wide Hero Mill decks roll out Anakin Skywalker's Podracer first, then use Anakin's ability to turn it. By using Closing the Net to mitigate their only die in the pool, they lose the opportunity to discard/mill 2 cards, while I have lost no cards in doing it.

This game proved it was an effective strategy. Also, Force Speed and Tactical Mastery into Vibroknife unblockable damage meant s and Force Illusion were useless.

The game ended with 1 card left in deck, and 5 still in hand.

Game 3 - eSnoke/Aphra/Battle Droid (Win)

This is the deck I dreaded - and I usually find that my 22 health team can't stand up to the . However, some timely heals with Ancient Lightsaber, some 's and surprise claims with Pryce s saw Snoke die turn 2, followed by Aphra.

A misplay on my opponent leaving Pryce on 1 health while he had a 1 that he put on Kylo Ren meant I could claim for the win.

Game 4 - eYoda/eEzra/Gungan Warrior (Win)

A quick kill on Ezra Bridger on turn 2 and I thought it was all smooth sailing from there - I was wrong!

Yoda loaded up with an Ancient Lightsaber and a Vibroknife meant my opponent could focus into 4 unblockable every turn. But once again, Closing the Net proved invaluable when the only dice left in his pool were a 1 Vibroknife and a +3 Ancient Lightsaber.

By game end, it was loaded-up Yoda vs. loaded-up Pryce - and once more, Pryce s into unmitigatable and unblockable damage proved invaluable.

Top 4 - eYoda/eEzra/Gungan Warrior (2-0 Win)

Same opponent from my 4th Game. Not much to say this time around - it wasn't close in both games. God rolls from both of my characters, good mitigation rerolls with Hidden Motive and Doubt, both games over within 20 minutes.

Top 2 - eSnoke/Aphra/Battle Droid (0-2 Loss)

I said it before - this deck isn't a good match-up. A good friend of mine was playing this deck, and I know he is a fantastic analytical player.

Both games I was able to get Snoke down quickly, but once his combo was in place (BT-1, 0-0-0) then I couldn't do much in the way of mitigating that damage.

Final Thoughts

The deck is great! Easy and fun to play, consisting of both control through Close Quarters Assault and Probe as well as the ability to burst with surprise through Tactical Mastery, Force Speed, and We Have Them Now.

There isn't really any changes I would make to this deck for the day that I played. It performed really well - in the end, my opponent was the better player and that deck is truly amazing.

Feel free to leave any comments and/or questions and I'll reply as soon as possible.

Max unblockable with Vibroknife and Ancient Lightsaber is 3. Hopefully he wasn't treating 1 +3 as unblockable ;)

Scales 638

@the BEAST - the very example you gave (1 on Vibroknife and +3 on Ancient Lightsaber is 4 unblockable damage...

the BEAST 1128

@ScalesThat would only be 1 unblockable. The only time when another die becomes unblockable is when vibroknife is the modifier. When ancient is +3, it modifies vibro, it isn’t modified by it.

Scales 638

@the BEAST - that is very wrong. Vibroknife deals unblockable damage whether it is the on its black side or modified side.

When showing 1 on Vibroknife, any modifiers attached to it also gain the unblockable effect - as the ability reads "Damage dealth by this die" and since modifiers aren't considered a seperate source of damage but attach to the black-side die, it becomes one single source of damage, therefore, all of it is unblockable.

@the BEASTyou are incorrect, @Scales has played this correctly.

The errata for this card now makes the Vibroknife die damage unblockable OR the Vibroknife die modified side plus the die it modifies.

EG 1: Vibroknife 1X + Ancient Lightsaber +3X = 4 unblockable

EG 2: Vibroknife +2X + Ancient Lightsaber 1X = 3 unblockable

EG 3: Vibroknife 1X + Ancient Lightsaber +3X + Dagger of Mortis +3X =7 unblockable

EG4: Vibroknife 1X + Ancient Lightsaber 1X = 1 unblockable + 1 blockable

EG5: Vibroknife +2X + Ancient Lightsaber +3X + Dagger of Mortis 2X = 7 unblockable

I could go on but i think there are probably enough examples there...
